Thrift Shop Supports Women and Children In Crisis

Potter’s Clay

The thrift shop is on Malvern Avenue up the street from the library. Sportsman’s Barber Shop is across the street.

Potter’s Clay Ministries

This program helps women recovering from addictions or abusive relationships.  Some of the women are single mothers with children.  When I spoke with Mike Brakebill, the Assistant Director, in early 2015, he told me that this ministry houses 50 people…

  • 35 women
  • 15 children

… in 8 apartments and 3 houses.  Mr. Brakebill said the ministry is not Catholic, but participants in the program were welcomed to trust in the healing power of the Lord Jesus Christ as a non-denominational or inter-denominational Christian faith.  At the time that Mike talked with me, there were no openings, as they were at full occupancy, but that could change.

The sales from this thrift store help pay the expenses for the Potter’s Clay ministry.  Some of the things I found for sale at this thrift store:

  • clothing:  mostly women’s clothes, but some for children and men
  • furniture:  including a computer desk, end tables, a bed
  • kitchen accessories:  dishes, glasses, coffee makers, thermos, electric inside grilling machines (for just $5!)
  • women’s shoes
  • and more

The store is bigger than it looks in the pictures because there is more to the building not seen from the road.  Donations to the shop are welcomed and help the ministry.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1:27 KJV
